Memories is something that doesn’t go that easy… Mostly when is something that we actually don’t want it to go easily. English class was something that I will never forget, Molina was that teacher that made me built courage and confidence with speaking english. She was someone that didn’t gave up NEVER on me. That’s something that will always be on my side.

R/W #13: WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
Society everyday becomes more and more scared to be outside, go to the mall, banks, school and even worse as mentioned in the article, birthday celebrations. What is the reason behind this? shootings. In this article, it is mentioned that the accident happened on a sweet 16th birthday. In which, four people got killed and twenty eight got injured. This incident as well as others, makes me think “WHAT IS HAPPENING?!” What is actually going on in the minds of those people, as well the mind of the people that actually plan it. This society really has become so normal and part of our lives that it is actually sickening to my stomach. Seeing how nobody does something about it and actually letting laws about firearms be more accessible. It is very bizarre how “firearms have become the leading killer of children in the U.S.” And that “In 2020, gun violence overtook car accidents as the leading cause of death in people 19 years old or younger” because now is something you see daily on the news and social media. With all of this gun violence we are not going anywhere, we are going to kill ourselves. Society is actually ending and we are giving up on the future of it. But we can prevent it, we have to take the laws of firearms first, and have better security and mostly, start to have peace, not only with us, with others too.
How our lives can change in just seconds…
Life, such a short word, but with a massive meaning. We live in a place where you have to be grateful everyday that we are still here because you never know when it will be the last day. Everyday we become more scared of what would happen to our loved ones if we don’t exist anymore. Becoming this a reason for not seeing many people out in the streets. Because we are not safe anymore… In this audio you can hear the point of view of a friend hearing that their friend was attacked on valentines day, just because her and her mom got lost, thanks to the GPS.
The deadliest little insect…
The deadliest little insect, mosquitoes. An insect that can cause death in all of us. Starting off with the biggest health issue in Africa, Malaria. A disease that can be transmitted by mosquitoes. In the video it is talked about the situation that is happening in Africa, caused by this. Sadly at that time, they were no type of help to these people, since they weren’t that technologically advanced. But when they found something that could have helped them. Rachel Carson stepped in protection of the community.
The American Environmental Movement started to pick up speed because of the book “Silent Spring” published by Rachel Carson. In which stated the damage that DDT could cause in the environment and people. Dichloro Diphenyl Trichloroethane, also known as DDT is an insecticide which had all the power to kill mosquitoes who transmitted malaria during World War II. Even though it was actually helping, it was also damaging the lives of those people, since it had some harmful toxins. Those toxins were being released to the lakes, animals, and in general, to the environment. Also being released to the humans, they were drinking it, eating it, smelling it, in general DDT were part of their lives, consuming their lives. In which Rachel Carson mentioned and alerted, and she was called even a Mass Murderer by John Stossel in “Stossel’s Take” and even had Time Magazine calling the book “An emotional and inaccurate outburst.” Nobody listened very well to the opinion and help that she brought. After all of that people actually noticed it, and later eliminated the DDT, it actually got worse and became a nightmare, since now the mosquitoes actually have become immune to the insecticides including DDT. In which they have been adapting very well and fast, through the immunity to the insecticides that “kills” them. And even some of them can recognize the silhouette of doors and easily go to people. So now it has been more difficult and harder to find a way to eliminate them. Leaving the thought of this statement: “Man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably, a war against himself.” We are part of nature, because we are nature too, but everyone has something, like a war with nature and we are actually having a battle with ourselves, because if someday nature just disappears, we are not going to survive.
This video has been very interesting and has a lot of information that I actually didn’t know. Actually letting me know that humans had not changed in the way that they can be “annoying” because even though they heard the warning of the insecticides, they continued and caused more damage to people than helping. Something that actually continues happening because humans don’t want to listen and get help from other people. But what can we do about it? It is up to us to change this and help our people get better. Having more places do research and investigations on how to calm down the mosquitoes and keep eliminating them. Because we know that is something that we have to keep living and deal with.
We are going to have fun!
Spring Break… What a wonderful time. Even though we are celebrating and commemorating the life of Jesus, we get a full week off and don’t have any worries about work, school in general and SOME TEACHERS! My spring break usually is very calm and we just have family time together, but this year I know it will be different, since we have a new family member! The best time I had in spring break was with my whole family, when we had a road trip together. It was very fun since we had a lot of stops and we didn’t have a time in the whole trip that we were bored. A time that I would love to repeat was the bonding that I had with my grandpa in that road trip, since he was a little bit sick, but not completely and terminal. That spring break was my favorite, but I just know that with the new member, Zekiel, it’s going to be even more fun and amazing.
R?W #12: “Pro and Con: Banned Books”
Books can be something that brings everyone peace, happiness, much more. We can see that there are many books that are being banned. Making people question the reason for the sudden decision. In the article it is said that it had been from 3% – 18% to 18% – 28% of banning books. Seeing the high percentages of people like parents, teachers and others. I think that is something that a parent shouldn’t decide over the daughter or son. It is more preferable that the person who is going to read the book decide it. And be that same person who decides if the book needs to be banned or not. Not the parent, because it is something that usually occurs in our daily lives, how do you prefer your daughter or son find out and learn about it. Through a book or them doing it? So I believe and prefer that the parents don’t decide over their kids on what book to read and what not to. On the other hand, in school it can be very different, because it is something that can represent the school. So I think that the school should add on a list of what books the students should read. I think that there are some books that can be “bad” but not that much and it is very “covered” but there are some books that can be very exaggerated. So sometimes it can be taken into consideration banning the books. But I think that when this type of situation happens, it should be banned but for some population, like kids and some teenagers. I have always loved to read but online on my iPad, and I have always shown my family what I read. They are always supportive and free with that, since it is my choice. But I have never read a banned book. What about you?

Assessment #10: Facts and Fake News: How to tell the difference
The article “Facts and Fake News: How to tell the difference” talks about how we as a society have trust and believing information that sometimes is actually false and “fake”. Actually it is becoming a big problem that the information nowadays cannot be identified as real and fake, we can’t separate them. It is said that our brains are basically “setted up” to make decisions quickly, without analyzing it. That can sometimes “lead us down the wrong path”. Lastly, the article provides different tips so we can identify if the article is “fake” or not. Also, two tools that help determine the reliability of the news.
Two examples of fake news and Real (facts) news are:
Fake News:
- Baseball-Sized Mosquitoes Now Fargo’s Second Pandemic
- Covid Cases now reported up in heaven including some deaths
- This type of “news” can be misunderstood and become a big issue in society. Even though it doesn’t make sense.
Real News:
- Asthma Medication Shortage Leaves Some Parents Concerned
- Major Russian missile barrage slams targets across Ukraine
- These news articles we can see are real, since we can see the testimony of people and experts of the topic that is talked about in each article.
Some questions that this articles gave me were:
- Do I actually make quick or impulsive decisions? Am I already “set up” like that?
- What article have I ever read that was false?
- How can we change the mentality of impulsive decisions?
- How can this medication shortage affect us in the future?
- How is the government in Ukraine dealing with all the damages?
